Shimona Rose
Piano & Singing Teacher
Singaporean soprano Shimona Rose graduated with a Master of Performance with Distinction from the Royal College of Music, studying under Amanda Roocroft. She was named the 2018 Opera Scholar of the Year and won the 37th Annual Australian National Liederfest. Shimona holds a Bachelor of Music from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where she studied with Carrie Barr. In 2019, she completed the “Poetry and Performance of the German Lied” program at the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Baden bei Wien.
An accomplished performer and seasoned recitalist, Shimona recently debuted as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus with the Singapore Lyric Opera at The Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.
Shimona began her musical journey with piano at age five, earning an ABRSM Diploma in Music Performance in 2014. Though piano was her first instrument, singing has always been a central part of her musical life. She continues to perform as an opera singer and Robert Presley Choral Scholar at St John’s Fulham, London, and works as a singing teacher and accompanist.
In 2023, Shimona qualified as a music therapist from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she continued her vocal training with Theresa Goble. She has experience working with children with special educational needs, older adults with dementia, and adults with complex neurological disabilities.
As a vocal teacher, Shimona has taught students in Singapore and London, both in person and online. Her students have included those preparing for high-grade ABRSM exams as well as those pursuing performance or learning for personal enrichment.
Shimona believes in balancing technique and musicality, with each informing the other. She emphasizes building a strong foundation in singing technique to enhance storytelling through voice. Shimona welcomes anyone interested in classical singing technique, storytelling, learning a new skill, or simply having fun.
